Nintendo Confirms GameCube Was Used
During this years E3, a few bystanders at the Nintendo booth spotted GameCubes behind the Wii stations. Nintendo has now confirmed that special made GameCubes were used to power the Wii games, including Zelda: Twilight Princess.
“The Wii hardware we exhibited at E3 2006 was made specifically for the E3 show and is not the final mass-production version. Some of this hardware was cased in Nintendo GameCube housing.”
This means that the final Wii games might end up looking better than showcased at E3, simply because the hardware powering it will get better. Nintendo (and ATi) also confirmed that they are still finalizing the hardware development. This could be the reason no official hardware specs have been released by Nintendo.
