PS3 On Sale For $1000!

Online UK retailer Play.com has set the PlayStation 3 on sale for a whopping £550, or US$1016. Still, they aren’t even promising to deliver, because of feared shortages on the European market. Sony originally said the UK price would be £420, or just over US$800.
“Due to an expected European shortage of the PS3, we are unable to guarantee delivery of your PS3 before Christmas,” the sits says.”
“All pre-orders will be fulfilled on a first come, first served basis and game titles in this package may be changed, subject to availability,”
$1000. Think about it.

You’re dumb, It comes with 3 games! £500 for PS3 and 3 games is a bargain for the UK.. It’s just a shame the small print says they don’t have to ship it at launch.

The sony system has alot more power than the X360, and its technology is actually innovative, the X360 only has some bundled PC parts essentially.
If you read, the PS3 has 2 Tflops of processing power, thats DOUBLE the x360, PLUS all the best games come out on playstation, xbox gets the sideshow games, like… halo? wtf is that all about, its a generic shooter style.. which PC gamers have been playing for years….
I think for a true next gen piece of hardware, thats a reasonable price.
Thats less than half a months wage for me.. and im only 17, so you guys must be poor

James: What “best” games are coming to the PS3? It has more processing power, yes, but developers are saying that they can’t get all the power out of the PS3, it simply take too much time and money.
Graphically, the 360 is superior to the PS3.
Halo wasn’t a “sideshow” game. Is Gran Turismo just another racing game? Final Fantasy just another RPG? GTA just another shooter?

Well, ive never seen a game on the xbox which has been inspired, thats the first thing, it seems to me that they start the game with ‘were going to make a shooting game! with aliens! and shiny graphics!’…. original… if you take a look at final fantasy, every story is mindblowing, the thought that goes into them.
And graphically xbox is superior, you gotta be joking me, look at the first few games which were released for PS2, and examine their graphics, compared to the graphics on games such as Devil May Cry. I can assure you mate, by this time next year, the xbox 360 will be more closely comparable to the original xbox than the ps3. And I KNOW that half the people who argue the toss for the x360 are only doing so becuase they feel stupid for not waiting for ps3.

well… xbox had KOTOR, which was inovative, inspired, epic, and frickin fun as well. PS3 will most DEFFINITLY have better graphics that xbox… for the first year. Then developers will level off with what they can do with the system, and Xbox will still be on the incline. PS always comes outta the gate ahead, but XBox will always be far better in the long run.

lol whats halo? well halo 2 is one of the (if not the) best selling video game of all time. ya know, they’re only making a movie out of it with lord of the rings and king kong producer Peter Jackson but yeah, wtf is halo, right?
besides, it doesn’t really matter to me i’ll end up with both one day in a year or so anyway, i have an xbox, PS2 and gamecube so why not do it again i say

Armin: If you read the text on that site though it states:
“The developer behind Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butchers Bay says that their upcoming next-gen game The Darkness looks the same on Xbox360 and PS3.”
Well sure, running the same code on a low end DX9 graphics card, and a high end DX9 graphics card on a pc is going to produce the same results, so why not with two consoles?
In a technical sense, the PS3 GPU has 1.8 TFLOPS floating point performance, whereas the xbox 360 only has 1.0 (last time i checked anyway). Sure the xbox 360 can pack out like… 6 billion vertices a second or something ridiculous, but ofcourse, the ps3 has sufficient power to put out 1.1 billion (which is unnoticably different anyway…) and then topple the x360 with high end effects such as HDR using the extra 8 trillion floating point calculations its got left…
And just to clear something… the xbox came out a while AFTER the ps2 adam, thats why its got better graphics

Oh and another thing, Halo 2 not only isnt the top selling game of all time, its actually the 30th, putting it behind about 15-20 PS/PS2 games and 15ish nintendo games…. including… im sorry… Pokemon Yellow on the Gameboy Colour.

A few things James, you’re 17, i assume your wages dont have to pay for rent, food, petrol etc so it can be quite expensive. Secondly the PS3 is not necessarily faster than the xbox, the cell processor is suffering major problems and the console currently renders half the triangles the 360 can.
Thirdly the PS3 is bugged with other problems. Have you heard there will b e multiple skus with different specs? It wont play dvd’s? Almost al its exclusive games (except Final Fantasy and Metal Gear)are now on 360? The controller feels cheap and has no rumble?
And finally its far too expensive, especially with the bundle of pretty rubbish games.
My advice, wait till christmas when the 360 will go down in price and get a 65nm processor (making it slightly faster and need less power) and the HD-DVD drive and get that AND a WII.

Thanks for the advice, but I can tell you id never buy X360… cause frankly in my eyes, its not ‘next gen’ quality. I used to work as a sales person in an electronics store, and I was keen to see the 360 in action a few weeks before release…. and it was UTTERLY disappointing, then I had to try and sell it!
And if halo 2 isnt the best selling game (its 30th!) but it made the most money, then that can ONLY mean its expensive as hell.
I have to say I played Halo 1 at a mates when he got his ’shiny new xbox’, it was the most boring thing I ever did I think
And I take Physics at college….

since thats still a tiny percentage of all games.

And for my OPINION about this xBox/PS thing, I have never and will never by an xBox! That being said, I will also never buy the PS3 either

Personally, I myself am a Playstation fan over other consoles, but, I do own an x-box, which was bought purely to play Halo, which, at the time, was a very good looking game.
With the release of the 360, its clear to see that the 360 hasn’t really shown anyhting mindblowing as of yet. I think its because it was rushed to be released ahead of the PS3.
I pre-ordered my PS3 the other day, AUS$999, which i believe, its pretty good seeing as it could have easily been higher.
Personally I will not be getting a 360, and have never been strongly into nintendo. But once PS3 is released, and both consoles have been given time to tweak, they should both produce some rediculously good games.

James. Just because some of us are not ready to invest half of our salaries into a gaming console doesnt make us poor. No. Were grownups, Students or just plain reasonable.
I got other expenses too ya know. Grownups have other expenses… easy for you to say “its only half of my monthly salary” your mom and dad feed, clothe and keep you clean.
I allso couldnt care less about how high tech PS3 is. PS2 was high tech too and after 6months it hardly played any games… heh. What I care about is quality and games. Graphics are good on all platforms these days. XboX, PS3 and PC all have good GFX.
I will wait for the price to go down before I am even thinking about getting myself a PS3. Thats it.

Hey guys, i just returned my 360 because of overheating and other techniqual difficulties. I was thinking of getting another one, but have crossed my mind with the option of getting a ps3, i dont mean to brag, but cost is no factor for me. my only concern is that ps3 will not have halo 3, but i am willing to live with that, and that ps3’s blu-ray drive will be almost half as slow as xbox360 drive, meaning loads are almost twice as long. also, whats with all the hype of it being techniqually superior? 99% of ps3’s games will also be on x360, meaning they will have THE SAME GRAPHICS AND GAME QUALITY. game developers have admitted its too lengthly and costly to design games to use the cell processors full potential, so most games will be equivilant to thier 360 counterpart. Also, the 1080p resolution the higher end ps3 is capable of requires a tv in the price range of low class automobiles, which i think is absurd. Plus, even if you do have this tv, most games will be designed to max out at what 360 is capable of. But the only thing standing in my way from giving up on ps3 is that in the future game developers might take full advantage of the cell processor. My last point is that there both already considered techniqually inferior to pc’s, because some games will run on an engine that requires so much power that only microsofts new game support system, directx 10, can play these games. You will need a pc that runs windows vista, the new operating system availiable in 2007. So it basicly boils down to the question of will the ps3 use its full potential and leave the 360 in the dust, or was there no point in all this fancy new hardware and cost because game devolpers choose not to use its power?
