PS3 Too Complex To Build?

Tech analyst P.J. McNealy of American Technology Research said during MI6 that the PS3 is so complex the yields on the hardware might hinder the production of the console. He said:
“This is now the most complex box that’s ever been built in this industry. It’s going to have a Cell processor, it’s going to have a Blu-ray drive. The number of pieces that are going into this box are even more astounding [than the over 1700 parts used in the Xbox 360].”
It has been reported earlier that the PS3 hardware isn’t doing as well as it should at this stage. Sony has later dismissed these rumors, but it apparently it still worries analysts. McNealy continues:
“While Sony has certain manufacturing advantages at the end of the day, this is a very complex process, and they’re going to be limited to the yields that they can come up with.”
He concluded with saying the Wii will be much easier to manufacture because of the simplicity of the system (Doh?!). He expects Sony to start mass-producing the new consoles in a few weeks. However, he does not believe Sony can deliver the 2 million consoles at launch as promised.
