IGN claims to have information indicating that Super Mario Strikers will be announced for the Wii at this year’s Leipzig Games Convention, in two weeks. If you’re unfamiliar with the game, Super Mario Strikers is a football (US: Soccer) game featuring a fast gameplay with all the favorite Nintendo characters.

The original Strikers for the GameCube was a popular title developed by Next Level Games, but was released too late in the GameCube lifecycle to have the recognition and sales it deserved. Since its release in December, it has sold over half a million copies.

Nintendo is also rumored to announce 5 new Wii titles at LGC, one of which could be Super Mario Strikers. They have announced a press conference called “Wii prove our promise”, scheduled a day before the convention.
