It appears that the upcoming HD-DVD add-on for the Xbox360 is going to be quite cheap. According to DigiTimes, Microsoft will launch the add-on this holiday season, for $200.
I don’t know how much I trust DigiTimes at this point, but the price sounds alright, since the drive will only include the optics required to read a HD-DVD disc. The console will do the image and audio processing. It seems natural that the cost is (far) lower than a stand alone HD-DVD player, currently retailing at around $500.
