Analyst Cuts PS3 Estimate In Half
Analysts from Mitsubishi UFJ Securities have cut Sony’s estimate of 6 million consoles shipped to 3 million this fiscal year (ending March ’07). They don’t believe Sony will be able to have enough consoles for everyone, which will result in the same shortages that Microsoft faced when the Xbox360 was introduced.
Following the news, Sony shares dropped 3.2 percent on the Japanese stock market. Masahiko Ishino from Mitsubishi UFJ Securities says, “In the medium term this [shortage] would mean that it would take longer for Sony to recover its huge investment in PS3 and thus we are downgrading the stock.
