EA Buying Crytek?
August 26th, 2006 by Darren Stevens in Business, PC, Rumor, Software
A German newspaper suggest that EA might be buying Crytek, the developers of Far Cry and the upcoming Crysis. EA has already secured the publishing rights to Crysis, and according to Die Welt, EA’s Gerhard Florin describes Crytek as a “very very interesting candidate” for an acquisition.
Co-founder of Crytek, Faruk Yerli confirmed they have been talking business with EA, but declined to mention anything about a takeover. He did mention however, that Crytek might be considering an initial public offering.
Considering that EA is already the publisher of Crysis, it wouldn’t be much surprise if the acquisition rumor turns out to be true. Only a week ago, EA bought another German developer, Phenomic.

This is really some crazy news if it turns out to be true … it seems EA wants access to the very best engines around … first they buy Criterion and the Renderware engine, then they license the UE3 from Epic and now they may also own the Cry2 Engine … man can anyone stop this behemoth from taking over all of gaming?
