80% Of PS3 Shipments Are 60 GB Versions

playstation 3 With the announcement of the European PS3 delay, Sony also gave some info on shipment plans. They plan on having 400,000 units ready on launch day in the US and 120,000 in Japan.

Speaking to analysts, Sony said that 80 percent of those shipments would be the $600, 60 GB version, and the $500, 20 GB version accounting only for 20%. So in case of shortages, don’t plan on getting the cheaper version.

Also, don’t forget that the Japanese 60 GB version hasn’t been officially priced yet, as retailers can set their own price. This will probably mean higher prices for the consumer, and without many 20 GB versions available, there not much choice but to pay up if you want a PS3 this November in Japan.

i honestly do think sony gave it up. Everyday i see some type of news anywhere about the PS3 i get discourage to buy the system. The wii is the most promising to me WTF… Sony’s done…

History has shown that there is no console developer that has been the leading creater for more than 2 gens. It is Sony’s time to step down. IMHO I think the holiday season the Wii will be in most homes, not the ps3. I mean what person in low class or a bit higher can even afford a 700 console with only 1 game to play? Moms will buy the Wii.
FPS players/26-28 year olds will get the 360 and a Wii leaving rich people and fanboys with rediculous ebay priced PS3’s.

I am not a fanboi of any kind, I a gamer and it’s just my opinion.

You are right. One of the reasons is that there will be about ten times as many Wii’ on the market. 5 million wii’ against 500.000 PS3′ at the end of march. If this trend continues, the PS3 will be a bigger flop than the gamecube. Interesting thought I think. I’m not saying that’s the way it’s going to be, but it could might just very well end up that way. And look at the earlier “too expensive machines”. Gamegear - it died. NeoGeo - it died too. Beside of the Playstation and Sony brand, the PS3 dont offers that much thats not available allready. Even the Blu-ray format lacks the quality of HD-DVD. Maybe Blu-ray is doomed the same kind of way that prior Sony inventions like Betamax, Minidisc and UMD. Everything points in that direction at the moment. So if you by a playstation 3, you might end up having a dated machine after a couple of years

Kaiser don’t forget the 3DO also.

Sony is always trying to make new formats that benefit themselves and making it proprietary whether its there batteries, cameras, memory, power cords whatever I’m just tired Sony and there ways.

Just a curious question if u have a blu-ray player not a ps3 will it be able to play dvds? I can’t find this info anywhere.

you guys are all retarded ps3 is worth every pennie in the $600 u cant compare ps3 to wii if you havent looked it up wii has broken many tv screens because of that stupid wrist band ps3 is clearly better and wii sucks.
