DigitalBattle Interview: Marcus Nilsson (BF2142)
October 5th, 2006 by Matt Stone in NewsWe had a chance to ask Marcus Nilsson, Sr. Producer for Battlefield 2142 at DICE Sweden a few quetions from a Battlefield-fan’s perspective. Full interview after the jump.
DigitalBattle: We know about the new Titan mode and about the regular conquest mode. How many maps will support Titan mode, and how many the regular conquest mode? Will you be making BF2142 remakes of popular BF2 maps, as you did with Wake Island 2007?
Marcus Nilsson: We’ll ship the game with 5 Titan mode maps and 10 Conquest maps. Conquest can be played in 16, 32 and 64 player mode while Titan has one size, 48 players. All 10 maps are brand new designs and play terrific. There are no plans at this point to remake old maps.
DB: Considering the huge popularity of urban maps like Strike at Karkand, have you put more emphasis on urban maps and urban infantry combat this time?
MN: We have focused on infantry battle in the Conquest only maps. We wanted to make the experience extremely tight and have given special design attention to convey the chaos. SoK was indeed a great map and much of what we learned there provides a great infantry experience with the maps in 2142.
DB: We know that there would be 40 different items to unlock in BF2142. However, wouldn’t players who play more get an unfair advantage with the new add-ons and accessories? In BF2, the awards and ranks were not mainly based on skill, but the amount of time you played. Will that be changed in 2142?
MN: This time around both time and skill play a role. Skilled players will advance faster as you’d expect. We also have now something we call an “away
