Crysis Could Be Ported To Consoles

A few months ago, Crytek said that the current consoles (PS3, Xbox360) weren’t powerful enough to handle their upcoming shooter Crysis. The whole thing was a bit misunderstood, since that the consoles are in fact quite powerful and can handle the game very well, but they don’t support DirectX 10, which is responsible for much of the eye-candy that’s associated with Crysis.

Now Crytek’s Michael Khaimzon, lead artist on Crysis, said that the game could be ported to the consoles. His exact words were:

“We have enough power here, with programmers and artists, to be able to do such a thing. It’s just a matter of making the decision.”

“We would just have to see how much of a sacrifice to the game we’d have to make. Or whether there would be a sacrifice at all, maybe we could find a way to make the game look exactly the same as it does on PC on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.”

Since EA is the publisher, they would certainly like to see the game on as many platforms as possible, selling as many games as possible. Of all the games EA releases, few are bound to one platform, so there’s a 99% chance that we’ll see Crysis on PS3 and Xbox360 sometime in 2007.
