Terra Soft announced that their Yellow Dog Linux v5.0 software will be released for the PS3 this November, free of charge, of course. This gives some confirmation to Sony’s “PS3 is a computer” theory, since Yellow Dog Linux v5.0 is a full operating system for the PS3, bundled with Mozilla Firefox, Thunderbird and OpenOffice.org.

The new Linux kernel will take full advantage of Sony’s Cell chip and other hardware, and includes the next generation desktop software “E17″. The Linux OS will run side-by-side with PS3′s own Linux-based operating system.
