Sony To Miss PS3 Shipment Target?
October 23rd, 2006 by Matt Stone in Business
Sony’s Jack Tretton revealed some rather disturbing news only weeks before the PlayStation 3 launch in Japan and North America. Apparently the promise of 2 million PS3s in Japan and US before the end of 2006 was just a “target” for them, and not an exact number of PS3s. Speaking to Bloomberg, Tretton said
“The honest answer is it’s more of a target. Clearly we’ve had production issues.”
Production issues were the reason for the European PS3 delay, now scheduled for release in March 2007. Sony just slashed its profit forecast by 35%, to its lowest in 5 years. This is mainly because of the costly production of PlayStation 3 consoles, and millions of notebook batteries that have been recalled over the past few months.

Even if they had 2 million in 2006, they would still be sold out and all over eBay…

Damn! It seems like nobody is going to be able to play the PS3 at launch.
