EA Selling In Game Money On Xbox Live

On October 25th, 2006 in Uncategorized -

rip-offEA surprised us when they announced that you would be able to purchase cheats in Tiger Woods PGA 2007, and purchase instruction videos for Madden 07. Their latest idea is to offer users of Xbox Live to buy in-game money for Godfather, and then spend it on new weapons and whatever comes along.

You can increase you Godfather bankroll by $50,000, $100,000, and $250,000 for 40 MS points ($0,740), 75 MS points ($0.94), and 150 ($1.88) MS points, respectively. While the PC version has a cheat code that would give you free money, the Xbox360 version has that cheat disabled, naturally.

Since Microsoft started the whole thing with Marketplace and Microsoft Points, they should at least try and control what publishers like EA are charging for. If it isn’t within the realm of common sense, then remove it. But that’s not how capitalism works, “the market will correct itself”, as business people always say. I’m not sure about the Xbox Live Market though.
