Review Roundup: Final Fantasy III
The Final Fantasy series has always been praised as one of the best RPG series out there. Final Fantasy III, for the Nintendo DS, helps the series keep this title. The game takes advantage of the DS’ WiFi features, as well as showing off some of the greatest graphics the DS has ever seen. This 3D remake of the classic game will sure to please old school RPG fans. It has been noted though, this may not appeal to many casual gamers.
IGN (78/100) “For any unassuming casual gamer out there, be warned, as Final Fantasy III hits hard and plays like the demanding days of old. The job system is solid (though definitely trumped from other Final Fantasy games), but the overall experience is very traditional and pretty straightforward.”
1Up (80/100) “There’s a certain satisfaction in seeing your juiced-up Monk land 28 hits in a single round, and FFIII delivers that thrill in spades — and there’s enough challenge to make it a necessity rather than overkill. The result is one of the best portable RPGs to date, and a fine example of how to remake a classic.”
Yahoo Games (70/100) “Square Enix’s attempts to modernize the title go a long way towards making it more enjoyable on the Nintendo DS, and it’s a good game overall, but you’ll still find that it lags behind more recent RPGs in some respects. If you’re a die-hard Final Fantasy fan, the purchase is a no-brainer. Those who are just looking for a great role-playing journey may want to tread a little more cautiously.”
GamePro (80/100) “Through and through, this remake of Final Fantasy III has been a wonderful return to old school RPGs. Fans of Final Fantasy will definitely enjoy this nostalgic trip to a simpler time, and RPG fans in general would be well served to pick up this fun title.”
