Red Steel was the first game announced for the Wii, and remained a highly anticipated title, right up to its release last week. But as any other console launch has its flop launch title, it appears that Red Steel will take that honor for the Wii. Bad story, bad graphics, and even worse controls make Red Steel a title you should avoid for the Wii, contrary to what some of the reviewers would like you to believe.
IGN (60/100) “Red Steel doesn’t live up to the hype. It nails everything except gameplay control, which is absolutely and indisputably the most important factor.”
GameSpot (55/100) “Red Steel isn’t completely devoid of merit, but it’s a half-baked, buggy game that feels rushed and poorly executed. There’s a good concept in here somewhere, as a swords-and-guns shooter pitting you against yakuza villains certainly seems like it could be very exciting.”
1UP (50/100) “Don’t be fooled into thinking Red Steel reinvents the FPS. It’s nothing more than a ho-hum shooter with a creative but flawed gimmick stapled on. Sure, it might not steal the launch lineup, but at least it proves this type of game is welcome on the Wii”
Computer And Videogames (80/100) “There’s no doubt that Red Steel is worth the purchase when you grab your Wii. It’s a superb shooter with a great plot, innovative gameplay and some really brilliant moments that will surprise even the most seasoned of gamer.”
GameInformer (75/100) “Most of Red Steel’s faults lie with the game’s presentation. Enemies shout annoying obscenities in your direction during every firefight, the cheesy score is bad enough to incite chuckles, and the jaggy graphics look worse than many Xbox and PlayStation 2 games.”

1This is one game that won’t start a debate about its reviews … it seems this game just failed .. darn I was looking forward to this title.

2i had a feeling it would, quite unfortunate, the sword fights looked to be promising but i didn’t like how slow it seems to move.

4exactly what i thought Armin, it doesn’t make sense to have you move the crosshair accross the screen to turn around, espeically when your getting shot at. the clip of the wii version of call of duty that was posted on this site showed clearly.

5They should have copied Metroid Prime 3 controls. It’s a Wii FPS, and people said it felt as smooth as using mouse and keyboard

6In MP3C you can choose between 3 different ways of settings. One called Expert mode, or something like it, should be really easy to control. And some journalists put the two games up against each other saying that MP3C had far better cotrols than RS. I’m not 100% sure how they works, since nobody haven’t really heard anything from the game in some time now. But they said that the standard option in Mp3C was the same as RS, where you point either right or left to turn, but that most people would probably prefer the other way when first getting the touch of them

7I think they should make the pointer movement optional by the press of a button. For example, in an FPS you could hold down, say, the Z button and that would put you into “combat” mode where the crosshairs remain always in the center of the screen. Just like the Z button targets enemies in Zelda, it could do this for FPS games.
