Gears Of War Still On Top
November 26th, 2006 by George Lester-Pearson in News
Last week was the first time Halo 2 was knocked off the coveted 1st place on the Xbox live activity charts. Some sceptics questioned whether it would last. Major Nelson has now posted this week’s Xbox live activity charts and Gears of War is still at the top there, although it doesn’t state by how much. This shows that it was not a one off, but the question is whether it will keep that top spot as long as Halo 2 did, or will it be kicked off by a later game?
Both Call Of Duty 2 and 3 are also on the chart, with the third installment at second place, followed by the Superman demo in third place. Halo 2 is still at the top of the original Xbox charts though, and it is very unlikely it will lose the top space on there.

Make a big deal out of it when it goes 6 months … who cares about 2 weeks … it’s not as if any great games came out … R6V is cool and all but did anyone really think it would be the game to topple Gears. I expect that pile to stay on top until next year when the real competition ships … games like Lost Planet, Bioshock, Mass Effect, etc. But yeah until then XBL belongs to the game that has ZERO original ideas. It’s really amazing how Graphics have totally eclisped everything else when it comes to this game … you can’t say that MS and Epic didn’t do an extraordinary job marketing this puppy.

Turns out that Eurogamer did mention Pitch Black … but no one seems as bothered by it as me. Oh well they are getting a big pass on that rip off from the press it seems but at least I am finding reviews now that mention it.
“Later, in perhaps the most exciting part of the game, Gears of War goes all Pitch Black on us and shows us just how much the Locusts love the darkness, with a swarming mass that rip you to shreds the very second you make the mistake of wandering into the dark.”
So maybe I did miss some other ones … ahhh but still no one seems to care. I don’t know how they get away with that. If it had been any other game or company they would be getting ripped severely in the press.

Anuban is right. Gears got the pass by it’s mesmorizing graphics and marketing. I mean there were so many launch parties of this game and Emergence Day was a big marketing scheme. Microsoft paid a lot of money 2 market this thing even more than Halo 2.
I mean Gears is being treated like it’s a new bully and if you say anything bad about it, it’s gonna hurt ya. Snap out of the graphics and the silly hype. Let’s see if this game can stay on top of the Live charts as long as Halo 2. Oh yeah! It won’t because as soon as Halo 3 comes along everyone is drop Gears like a hot potatoe fresh out the oven.

My goodness! You folks are so prophetic! Let me guess…you’re all involved in competing products, right? Could you be any more jealous? In the great words of mr. John Romero….Suck it down, boys!
Gears rules!

4x the games of the next in line COD3. Yeah…Gears is simply a piece of crap fluke championed by a brilliant marketing scheme….gamers just don’t know what’s good for them….yeah right!

That is your opinion and you are entitled to it. Obviously we have a very different one, you need to respect it and not tell anyone to “suck it down”. I’m starting to lose patience with this place and its lack of respect for other people’s opinions, as well as other things. Perhaps I haven’t found a new home afterall.

aww….for someone who spews such negativity…it must be difficult for you to find a warm welcome. Your opinions are fine, but they’re polarized and unnecessarily negative. Gears is a great game and I’ve been addicted to it for a month now….and I’ve been an avid gamer for almost 30 years. Gears has me excited….nothing else does right now. You can hang out…I’m off. The opinions here are clearly not in line with mine.

Again your opinion and I expressed mine and I do not think Gears is a great game (maybe great to look at but that is it) …. whether you feel they are negative or not I could care less. I never got personal. You on the other hand decided to do just that. So if anyone is spewing negativity it is you sir … and don’t worry I am done on this thread as well and really have nothing more to say to you on any thread. I’m off as well.
