Reggie Talks Wii MMOs

ON December 1st, 2006 In Uncategorized

In a recent virtual interview over the MMORPG Second Life with Adam Reuters, Reggie Fils-Aime revealed that Miis may become the basis for the Wii’s social network. When asked about the possibility of further customizing the Mii player profiles, Reggie said,

“We think the ability to customize your Mii is very fascinating, adding more personality, more information, so certainly that’s something we’re looking at. We have had so much interest from a variety of virtual networks out there. We have Miis showing up on MySpace, and other places, so I’d love to see it show up on Second Life.

Reggie also touched on the possibility of MMOs on the Wii:

“The Wii certainly has enough power to drive an MMO and make it totally interactive. Are we as a first party looking at it? Not so far, but are we encouraging other developers to look into this? Absolutely. We believe with the nunchuck and the Wii remote it could be a fantastic MMO.”

An MMORPG on the Wii would be pretty unique with the nunchuck, and would indeed be a fresh feeling for gamers long awaiting something new. The Wii, thankfully, looks like it will be a lot more online oriented than the GameCube. Let’s hope that another Phantasy Star Online isn’t the only thing coming to the Wii as far as MMOs go.
