IGA And Valve Sign In-game Ad Deal

December 20th, 2006

A few weeks ago we mentioned Valve’s plans of adding in-game advertisements to online shooter Counter-Strike, and now the deal between IGA Worldwide and Valve has officially been revealed. IGA CEO Justin Townsend had the usual PR crap to say, trying to justify the deal,

“This exclusive agreement between IGA Worldwide and Valve adds significant value to our network and provides brands with a sure-fire way to reach millions of consumers with high impact advertising, and with highly measurable results,” said Justin Townsend, CEO of IGA.

That sure is a lot of marketing lingo. Valve’s marketing director Doug Lombardi added,

“As the world’s premier online action game, Counter-Strike’s player minutes exceed its closest competitor by more than 100 per cent,”

And what’s better than take advantage of all those gamers and screw them big time, not to mention the server admins? Now, Valve will put ads on servers run and paid for by gamers and server owners. It’s kinda like when you buy new car, and the dealer gets the right to put ads on your new car, without giving dime to you. Good job Valve. After this, there will most likely be fewer gamers playing CS. I for one certainly won’t touch CS anymore.
