Japan Hardware Sales (June 17th)
Japanese Hardware sales week on week are pretty much stay the same. Right? I mean, nothing has really swapped changes, there are no real surprises. Nintendo dominates, while both next gen systems the PS3 and Xbox 360 barely can grab a foothold in the market. Well, that’s mostly true with this weeks sales:
- DS Lite: 118,684
- Wii: 65,521
- PSP: 33,359
- PS2: 11,974
- PS3: 9,481
- Xbox 360: 7,583
For the keen eyes observer however, you may very well notice a chilling trend. See the bottom of the list. Don’t do too much of a double take, but the 360 is actually selling almost as well as the PS3. Something not really surprising here, but in Japan it is a whole other matter. We all know the 360 is simply not accepted by the Japanese market, but after all the software they keep pushing, the results are starting to take effect. Every single console rose in sales, but the highest percentage goes to the 360 with almost 200%!
- DS Lite: 1,491
- Wii: 992
- PSP: 8,648
- PS2: 877
- PS3: 705
- Xbox 360: 5,050
Sure it’s not going to be toppling the Nintendo regime anytime soon. But trust bell has made a bit of an impact. The Japanese culture likes small, cute and cheap things. Everything that Nintendo products currently represent, but with none of those features going for the PS3, could the 360 actually establish a foothold? It seems impossible not all that long ago, it’s just amazing how quickly things can change.
