At its E3 press conference, THQ announced that its internal development studio Vigil Games is working on Darksiders: Wrath of War, an action-adventure game that will have players harnessing the power of War, one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, as he explores a demon ravaged world seeking revenge and ultimate redemption with a vast array of modern and mythical weaponry.

“Our internal studio Vigil Games is combining proprietary next-gen gaming technology and a graphic novel visual style to bring open-world gaming to the action-adventure genre like never before,” said Kelly Flock, executive vice president of worldwide publishing, THQ. “We believe the game’s combination of a deep yet easy to control combat system, seamless open-world exploration and the artistic vision of legendary artist Joe Madureira will make Darksiders: Wrath of War a must have game in 2008.”

“With Darksiders: Wrath of War we want gamers to step into the role of WAR and feel the ultimate power of being one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse,” said David Adams, general manager, Vigil Games. “Joe Madureira has created a classic story of exploration and revenge and we’ve used that as the foundation for ultimate sword-clashing, rocket-firing, super hero adventure.”
