Sony and Virgin have been quietly working on a multi year deal with Virgin comics for a license to create an MMO based on the Sanskrit epic Ramayana, a 2006 comic from Virgin Comics. The comic is more sci-fi than the original epic story, and should make for an interesting departure from the primarily fantasy setting of most MMOs. Since the deal is only recently drawn, it will be some time before the MMO sees the light of day, but something to keep your eyes on none the less.

In a world increasingly dominated with games influenced by a western Tolkien mythos, Ramayan will offer gamers a chance to experience a whole new universe of characters and archetypes derived from one of the oldest cultures on Earth.
