NaturalMotion to Break Backs
The company behind the euphoria animation technology featured in Grand Theft Auto IV and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, two highly anticipated games, NaturalMotion has decided to get into game development itself, focusing on the use of animation. It has announced Backbreaker, an America football game, exclusive to next-gen consoles in 2008.
As expected, the game will make full use of the company’s animation engine, allowing for unprecedented backbreaking, among other things. They state that unlike other football games which feature canned animations, this game will use physics to calculate and execute the tackles and other animations.
“Backbreaker is the first football game with truly interactive tackles. By utilizing our motion synthesis engine, euphoria, players will never make the same tackle twice, giving them an intensely unique experience every time they play the game,” said NaturalMotion CEO Torsten Reil. “Backbreaker puts players in the middle of the gridiron by providing a pure, realistic football experience only possible on next-generation consoles.”
The game’s website is up, offering a trailer showing off nice, painful tackles.
