Wii Breaks Record in UK

On August 30th, 2007 in Uncategorized -

Continuing to swim in pools full of money, Nintendo today announced that it has sold over one million units of the Wii in the UK in nine months (38 weeks), making it the fastest selling console in the region. This breaks the record held by the PS2 which took 50 weeks and the Xbox 360 which took 60 weeks to achieve the same milestone.

Commenting on the performance of the Wii in the UK, Nintendo local General Manager David Yarnton said, “The non-stop demand for Wii even in the traditionally slow sales periods for video games in the UK is clearly behind this record breaking achievement.” He later added that both the Wii and DS are seeing unprecedented demand among all age groups, with games that appeal to everyone.

Nintendo is aiming to keep the momentum going into this Christmas season. The Wii is available in the region for £179.
