Square Enix Slams the PS3
It’s no surprise that not everyone appreciates the PS3, or any of the other consoles for that matter. The number of companies that have criticized Sony in the past is alarmingly large. Today, Square Enix can be added to the growing list. The popular Japanese RPG company had some pretty rough things to say about Sony’s marketing strategy of the Playstation 3.
“Sony first unveiled the PS3 as a mighty home electronics product. Then, after some badgering from game companies, it shifted the position of the console closer to a game machine,” he commented. “(The future of the PS3) would be tough if its marketing strategy is not straightened up.”
Around the time when the PS3 was first introduced to the market, Blu-Ray players were selling for staggering high prices. Media enthusiasts decided to buy the PS3 just to play the next generation format without paying a fortune. The same marketing strategy was also evident during the launch of the PS2. DVD players were expensive, and the PS2 was a great alternative for anyone looking to purchase a player for a low price.
In the beginning, Sony has stressed the fact that their machine is not only a gaming console, but is instead a multimedia device. Due to recent developers being critical towards the PS3, the company has shifted focus onto mainly gaming. Although, Sony is not to be underestimated, since they have been in the business of electronics for quite some time now. We can always expect them to have an ace up their sleeves.
