Ubi Opens Studio in Chengdu

September 18th, 2007

Silly names aside, French publisher Ubisoft is taking China seriously, as it has launched a new game development studio in Chengdu, Sichuan. Simply dubbed Ubisoft Chengdu, the studio is being headed by Richard Tsao, senior producer at the publisher’s Shanghai studio. The new studio will initially focus on internal outsourcing and in time will be responsible for developing online titles for PC, consoles and portables.

Chengdu opens its doors with a total of 10 team members with a goal of expanding to 200 developers over the next year. The city is one of the most technologically developed cities in communist China, with over 35000 software programming graduates per year. Ubisoft hopes to capitalize on this and build its base further into China where it has one of its most prolific studios – Ubisoft Shanghai.
