Rockstar Will Appeal UK Manhunt 2 Ban, Again

On October 8th, 2007 in Uncategorized -

Earlier today the Brits, a.k.a. BBFC, upheld the ban on Mahunt 2, saying even though minor changes have been done, it is still more than the British kids can take. Rockstar and publisher Take 2 have the right to appeal, and they have indeed appealed. Rockstar released a statement earlier today, saying:

“The BBFC allows adults the freedom to decide for themselves when it comes to horror in movies and we think adults should be similarly allowed to decide for themselves when it comes to horror in video games, such as Manhunt 2.”

As a gamer (doh!) and advocate of freedom of expression and free choice (who isn’t?), I completely agree with Rockstar – it’s not the job of the BBFC to be a nanny for kids, let alone adults. Apparently the British gamers cannot decide whether a game is too violent for them to play, so the BBFC will decide for them. How convenient.
