Apparently the daily dose of Super Smash Bros. Brawl news isn’t enough for some people. After a great deal of URL digging, someone called Zeke The Plumber has possibly unlocked a clue as to who the next character could be, or at least the series they could be from.

The idea is that every character has their own icon. Each icon’s has the URl http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/images/icon/world_b_**.gif. The icons are separated by numbers where the ** are, for example Sonic’s icon is 20, so it’s URL would be http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/images/icon/world_b_20.gif. The intriguing thing is that there is a gap in the numbers at 13 and 19. The space for 13 is supposedly for Mr.Game & Watch, who is the last franchise from Super Smash Bros. Melee which hasn’t been confirmed for Super Smash Bros. Brawl yet. More after the jump.

So what about the icon for “19″? After some seemingly random deciphering of the Japanese translation of the franchises, “Zeke” has found something interesting in their order, possibly pointing to what series “19″ could represent.

“All that remains are 15 through 20 and the mysterious absence of number 19. Animal Crossing, Wario Ware, Metal Gear Solid, and Kid Icarus, all of which are new series to Brawl. It would be safe to assume that 19 will be a new series as well. Hmmm… from the looks of it, it doesn’t look like we’ll be able to discern any predictions from first glance. BUT WAIT! Let’s take those series and change them to their translated Japanese names, giving us:

Animal Forest (literal translation from Dobustu no Mori)
Made in Wario
Metal Gear Solid
Myth of Light: The Mirror of Palutena (literal translation from Hikari shinwa: Parutena no Kagami)
???
Sonic The Hedgehog

What does this show us? The names are in alphabetical order. Which would mean that the next series would fall somewhere between M and S. The candidates: NiGHTS, Pikmin, Pac-man, Punch-Out, and Rockman.”

Of course this is hardly any form of confirmation, and it could easily be a coincidence. Still it’s interesting to see what people find out with so little to go on.
