Xbox 360 With Built-in HD-DVD Coming?
According to Australian site Smarthouse.com.au, citing an insider at Toshiba, Microsoft is working on a new Xbox 360 console with built-in HD-DVD drive. According to the source, the new console will also include a larger hard drive and a revamped software and decoder package, including an HDTV tuner. This is supposedly Microsoft’s answer to Sony’s PS3 multi-media/HTPC capabilities, which should be available early next year. It’s not entirely unlikely that Microsoft will release a console with built-in HD-DVD drive, but they’ll need to keep the cost down as much as possible. Otherwise we’re looking at a $500-$600 Xbox 360/HTPC/HD-DVD combo player.
