UK Government Recruiting From Gamers

On October 23rd, 2007 in Uncategorized -

It seems that the British government is having a difficult time finding qualified people these days. The Defense Science and Technology Laboratory which is a branch of their Ministry of Defense has started running an ad campaign in UK gaming magazines. The advertisements show a city being laid to waste by UFOs with the caption “You’re already a dab hand at analysing scenarios in the gaming world. But how would you fare in real life, with real lives at stake?”

Although they claim that they’ve gotten many promising responses so far I can’t help but wonder at some of the absolutely ridiculous phone interviews, resumes and cover letters they must be getting. I’m sure there are plenty of people showing up figuring they’re a shoe-in because they used to rock at Goldeneye back in the heyday of the N64. Defeating swarms of Zerg in Starcraft does not mean you can add ‘commanded sophisticated military forces in successful campaign’ to your resume.
