DigitalBattle’s Xbox 360 Holiday Buying Guide
Own an Xbox 360, need some gift ideas for your gamer? This list will certainly come in handy, just be sure to cross reference with their gamer profile that they haven’t already earned all the achievements for a title, and you just might find the perfect title. We’ll take you through some of the hottest hits, and some great titles that every can get behind this holiday season.
Does you gamer swear by Star Wars, enjoy RPGs and is the type that sees projects to completion? This may be the very best option. As currently the newest first party offering on the 360, it’s also likely one they haven’t had an opportunity to pick up yet. Mass Effect is easily one of the best offerings for the 360 this year, and some even swear by it as the best.
When it comes to sheer value and content, there is no contender. The Orange Box actually contains a total of 5 different offerings, but unlike Wii Sports, each is actually a full blown gaming effort, and the pinnacle of offering on the 360. If that’s not enough convincing, check out our reviews for Portal and Half Life 2, then head over to Amazon to snag a cool extra ten dollars of savings.
If you are buying Halo 3, you probably haven’t purchased a console yet either. Halo 3 really is a great game – so says our review – but chances are if you are buying for a mature gamer, they’ve already played through Halo 3, or it simply doesn’t appeal to them. On the offhand that they just haven’t gotten to it yet, this may be their very favourite present under the Christmas tree.
Bioshock is another one of those simply must have titles. Unlike Halo 3 it didn’t carry the same insane sales, but very likely will be picking up a few more Game of the Year awards in the process as well. Bioshock is an amazing title that is simply a must buy for any 360 owner. Since it was an August release, it’s had time to settle on the market. Right now you can pick it up for 20 dollars off the list price, so take advantage of this offer while it lasts.

Choose your poison. These duo of rock games resemble the hot new genre in the video game market. Guitar Hero 3 sticks with the tried and true formula, probably delivering the best experience on the 360. The new wireless guitar is excellent, and the set list even better. Rockband brings a whole new dynamic to the mix, from the makers of Guitar Hero 1 and 2, including Vocal, Guitar, Bass and Drums, it makes for the more enjoyable party experience. While Rockband probably edges out Guitar Hero 3 for multiplayer fun, it also edges is out on the price tag as well. If you can afford it, go for Rockband as it’s easier to find in retail, has a better long-term download strategy, and is more fun for the whole family.
We haven’t hit on many kid friendly titles, and well, Viva Pinata isn’t quite kid friendly either. Don’t let the cute exterior fool you, this is quite a hardcore game under all the bright and cheery colours. If your gamer can stomach it, this critically acclaimed title was a bit over printed, and as such is extremely cheap. While none of the other last year titles have made the cut, few can be found for sub 20 dollars and far less in the used bins.
Scene It? Lights, Camera, Action
Sound like the popular board game? That’s because it’s an adaptation for the 360, and probably a game like Scene It should have began on a console to begin with. Whether your parents realize it, Scene It is a pseudo videogame, and their system: the DVD player. Get the whole family over the mental hump and showcase how everyone can enjoy a videogame. The four pads included for buzzing in your answers should also prevent fights over judging.
