Guitar Hero 3 Songs Seeing Sales Increase

On November 23rd, 2007 in Uncategorized -

gh3sales.jpgMusic is big business and even bigger business if your song is in a rhythm game as popular as Guitar Hero 3. As expected, sales of songs included in the game’s set list have risen, as per Soundscan’s sales figures before and after the release of the title.

For example, The Strokes’ “Reptilla” has seen its digital sales rise 127 percent after the release of the game; similarly, Slipknot’s “Before I Forget” saw sales jump 140 percent post-release.

“It doesn’t appear to matter if you’re in the main game or are a bonus song; huge gains are seen everywhere. As long as your song ships with the game and you offer the track to be downloaded digitally, you see an increase,” said a source close to the music industry to Ars Technica.

The jump is a little difficult to spot when looking at album sales, however. The Weezers’ album saw a rise of 47 percent, though it came out in 1994, whereas the Queens of the Stone Age album did not see much of a jump in term of sales.

Keeping all this in mind, it can be concluded that music labels will fight over getting their songs in Guitar Hero 4, whenever that comes out.
