Activision CEO Demands Console Price of $199
It would seem that the CEO of Activision has either lost his mind or needs to go back to business school. Bobby Kotick has said that within the next two years all of the major consoles need to reach a price of $199. He claims that by then the Wii will have dropped to a mere $129. He claims that consumers are unconcerned that the Wii is less technically sophisticated than the other next-gen consoles. A trip to any gaming site comment area or forum would tell him otherwise.
Mr. Kotick: yes, the consumers who don’t care about graphical or technical superiority are quite numerous. They’re often the more casual gamers, the ones who games like ‘Cooking Mama’ and ‘Nintendogs’ were aimed at. If there wasn’t a market for high-end gaming systems that could produce stunning graphics and amazing visual experiences, the Playstation 3 wouldn’t have sold a single unit when it came out with a price tag of $600.
