Warmonger Disappoints
The recently released free game Warmonger was quite anticipated by some, after all, it was built with Unreal Engine 3, and should feature a lot of physics based combat. The game is another promotional title for Ageia’s PhysX physics chip, so it’s no wonder that physics are the main attraction here. If you have a PhysX card, that is.
I downloaded the game in a matter of minutes (it’s only 450 MB), but it took over half an hour to install, because it’s compressed quite a lot. But that’s okay, it’s free, so what the heck.
After installing the game, I loaded a map to see what the whole deal is. And I was surprised by the game. It is by far the worst looking UE3 game to date, and the lag is unbearable, even on a high end machine. But it’s a PhysX game, so I installed the PhysX card I borrowed from a friend. And while it took out some of the lag, the game was still barely playable.
The physics were smoother, but were not realistic at all, and almost all objects behaved in every other way than they’re supposed to. Graphically, it appeared as if it looked even worse.
Even if it’s a free game, it’s still not worth getting. The graphics are an insult to the Unreal Engine 3, and the PhysX once again, fail to deliver.
