Why You Can’t Use Change on Xbox Live

December 12th, 2007

Xbox Live is undoubtedly a great service, but it has its quirks as well. One of those quirks is that users cannot buy exact amounts of Microsoft points for use in the service, leaving many with change after buying pieces of downloadable content. This crossed a certain 1UP reporters mind, who had the ability to ask the company directly about it.

“The reason why we do that, the core reason, is around credit card transaction fees,” said Microsoft. “If we do this in bulk, we don’t have to burden the consumer with the transaction fees, or ourselves or publishers. It’s about keeping infrastructure costs down and I know sometimes it’s frustrating because you end up with odd points, but we don’t have any plans to change that.”

So, there you have it – Microsoft is in fact saving you money!
