As Joystiq quite humorously points out, Sony Computer Entertainment America has trademarked the name ‘Resistance 2′, indicating that a sequel to the best-selling PS3 game by Insomniac is currently in the works. This comes as no surprise, however, as the commercial value of the franchise is pretty high right now and gamers would surely gobble up a well-made shooter sequel.

As of right now, neither Sony nor Insomniac has made any formal announcements, but seeing that the original came out only last year, one can assume they will make an announcement late next year. According to the game’s lore, the alien forces have now invaded all of Europe, expanding the story to various locales throughout the continent.
