Following the novel sequel to Mass Effect, Amazon UK and Wal-Mart have revealed that a prequel to Gears of War is in the making in the format of a book. Titled Gears of War: The Pendulum Wars – The Battle of Aspho Fields, the book is being written by Steve L. Kent, who has written several sci-fi novels and strategy guides.

The book is set for release on February 26, 2008 in the UK and will feature 352 pages of dead trees. It is being published by Del Rey Books and will cost approximately $9 in the US once released this August.

The story features events that takes place during the Locust-Human War, prominently showing off main character Marcus Fenix who fought and performed various heroic deeds during the time.
