BT First Company To Use 360 As Set Top Box

On January 9th, 2008 in Uncategorized -

As part of Bills CES speech on Friday, apart from touching on ABC hoping on board their service, which allows Xbox owners the first time access to this content which has previously been Blu-ray only, there was another interesting tid-bit. As announced last year, the Xbox 360 was about to be used for IPTV, and British company BT has pledged to be the first company to do so.

However, some recent clarifications about the announcement have also been made. BT does not currently have an IPTV service, and as such, since the 360 does not contain a tuner, there will be no recording or watching live TV. Instead merely it will serve as an on demand service, at a subscription price. That seems like a questionable move, especially when Xbox Live already has its own meager service, which just grew a lot bigger thanks to ABC. For now, it seems dreams of IPTV are still unannounced as we wait patiently for someone to offer the real service.
