Lord of the Rings Online Goes DX10

January 10th, 2008

Turbine has announced that Lord of the Rings Online is the first MMOG to support DirectX 10. Players with compatible GPUs and Windows Vista operating system can experience the world in the game in full DX10 glory, including upgraded shaders for water, particle effects and lighting for distant terrain. New features include DX10 exclusive dynamic shadowing features which render realistic real-time shadows in the vast outdoor environments of the game’s world.

The Conan MMORPG was set to be the first to support DX10, though it is yet to be released. DX10 take-up by developers has been slow, seeing only major FPS games and a few other titles support the Windows Vista-exclusive technology.
