In the minds of many both in the entertainment industry and the general public, the HD format war is all but over. Calls for the crown of victory to be placed on the brow of Blu-Ray ring out from all corners of the internet. While some still insist that the war is not over, Microsoft’s reported consideration of turning to Sony’s format heralded the end for many. Unfortunately for the staunch allies of Sony and all that is blue, Microsoft is stating today that the comments made yesterday were misinterpreted by the press. What was taken for a statement of “we’re working on a blu-ray add on now” really meant “yes, if HD-DVD tanks completely, we could switch over to blu-ray”. Microsoft further goes on to say that their support for the format will be unwavering until Toshiba ceases supporting it as well.
