Brawl Officially Delayed To March 9th

January 15th, 2008
Here’s your happy bit of news for the day. In a move that wasn’t surprising, giving the swirling rumors and changes retailers were making, Smash Bros. Brawl has been delayed in North America by approximately one month to March 9th. Meanwhile, the Japanese suffered a lessened blow, with their release date only being pushed back by a release. The bad news is we’ll be waiting a lot longer to receive Brawl, but the good news is that the information floodgates should still open relatively soon upon the Japanese release.

Sakurai had a bit of an apology lined up for us on the Dojo:

“Due to delays in the completion of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, we’ve had to change the release date of the game to Sunday, March 9th.

I deeply apologize to the people who have looked forward to playing the game for so long and ask that you hold on just a little longer. Thank you for your patience.”

Obviously this was a last minute decision, as the team wasn’t quite unable to wrap up everything in production, but hopefully this will be the last. It’s surprising that North America took a bit of a hit, as localization for the title wouldn’t seem to be such a big deal, and would be the only issue separating the Japanese and North American release. Either way, we should be brawling before the end of the fiscal year, and with Brawl and WiiWare on track, expect Nintendo to own March.
