Master Chief Supporting Role In Halo Film

On January 17th, 2008 in Uncategorized -

Although there’s no word on if the film is actually going to be made any time in the near future, the current script for the Halo movie will have some fans of the series relatively unhappy with the layout of the story and the characters. Despite Master Chief being the protagonist of the story and the archetypal one man army, he’s going to be taking a backseat to other characters in the proposed story. Joseph Staten, Bungie’s writing director, gave some insight into what role the spartan would play in the film. His mysterious past and general anonymity will be used mostly as conversational fuel for other characters whose stories and relationships will do most of the heavy lifting for the emotional and plot-related content. Master Chief will simple be an ‘anonymous problem solver’ according to Staten. While many might protest this, it does seem to fit rather well with how the character was portrayed in the game. There is no doubt that 117 is a soldier of great skill and valor, but he’s not portrayed as much of a thinker. Orders and suggestions are handed down by Cortana, the Keyeses and various other officers. Only in the third game do they probe the character at all, mostly via his pseudo-romance with Cortana.
