Ender’s Game, The Game

January 29th, 2008

One of the classic sci-fi novels of the late 20th century is without a doubt Orson Scott Card’s “Ender’s Game”. The plot (for those unfamiliar) involves genius children from Earth being sent to a space station called the “Battle School” to train to become the future military commanders of Earth. The practical aspect of their education takes places in a zero-g room where the children engage in mock battles using suits that simulate disabling and death in battle by immobilizing limbs and entire bodies. This is where the video game aspect will come in, with players taking the role of the commander of each ‘army’ and attempting to reach the top of the standings of the school. It’s unknown if you’ll be taking the role of the novel’s protagonist of if you’ll be creating a character of your own in the game which will be developed by Chair Entertainment. The game will be confined solely to the ‘battle room’ scenario as that is the only part of the story they’ve acquired licensing rights to. The games will be released for download via PC, Xbox Live Marketplace and the Playstation Network. The company has the rights to develop titles for the PSP and DS as well, but they have announced no plans to do so as of now.
