GTA 4 Viral Marketing Begins
With the release of the game just a few months away, Rockstar has begun the marketing for Grand Theft Auto 4 by conducting a “viral” campaign in parts of New York. Kotaku reports of the campaign, which has seen convincing posters posted on Brooklyn-area telephone poles featuring Niko, the protagonist of the upcoming game. The poster warns people that Niko is “wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting” and explains that his Eastern European descent “narrows it down to 95% of the Hove Beach community”. It also jokes that “even we can’t arrest that many foreigners”, suggesting that Niko be shot on sight.
The poster also carries an email address and website link for the Liberty City Police Department. Though the site isn’t currently up, Kotaku carries the response they got from the posted email address.
