Lair Getting A Control Fix?

February 12th, 2008

One of the most visually stunning and anticipated games for the PS3 was Factor 5′s “Lair” where you fought astride a dragon. Sadly, when the game was released many found it to be difficult to control due to the Sixaxis motion controls involved. A mild fiasco ensued when the company issued a guide to reviewers essentially telling them that there was nothing wrong with the game, they just didn’t know how to play it correctly. According to an interview with IGN, President Julian Eggebrecht makes some statements that allude to Factor 5′s unwillingness to consider the game a failure, and might even be hinting at a patch to add on more traditional control styles to the game. “I think that everybody who got the controls actually enjoyed the game,” Mr. Eggebrecht said, including that “I hope that a lot of people realize that underlying the problem they had with the base control, there actually was a really good game there.” He tongue in cheekly admitted that of course, he would not be criticizing his own company’s product, saying: “That’s at least what I think. Well, what else would I say?” He later stated that there might be something in the works intended to bring the game to the audience who missed out on it, and acknowledged the fact that basing the controls on the motion sensing gimmick of the Sixaxis controller entirely without including another control scheme was a huge mistake.
