PS3 Implementing Messaging Service

February 14th, 2008
It is only a week away from GDC, and it seems like at least a small portion of Sony’s plans have been foiled. The situation is very similar to last year, when word of Home hit the internet before the show began, and erupted into a huge controversy, with Sony threatening sites to remove the story. This time however, the fault is completely their own, where a screen grab from the Playstation website reveals a small box talking about Friends & Messaging.

As seen above it says, “Talk to others during game play, say hello anytime you’re online, or have a video chat with the Eye camera; USB camera or headset”. This has been a long requested feature of the Playstation Dashboard, and it really isn’t that big of a stretch to imagine it releasing very soon. At this time though, the little box seen above has been removed from the website. I’m sure we’ll hear more about it at GDC in a week.
