Dreamcast.com Turned into Phishing Scam

March 12th, 2008

212The Dreamcast is generally heralded as the best console of all time, right beside the SNES. So, it was happiness that found its way to Sega loyalists when they found that Dreamcast.com had been updated. Turns out, it is no longer owned by Sega and that the update was not a legitimate one as the current owners are illegally using the system logo for their own nefarious deeds.

“Do you still own a Dreamcast?” asks the website, letting users register for a @user.dreamcast.com email address by providing their console serial number, email address and a password. Engadget reports that Japanese news site Mainichi has confirmed that the site’s domain registration information is also fraudulent and that Sega is consdiering “appropriate measures”.

As the situation unfolds, please be careful out there on the web and don’t give the aforementioned website your personal information by any chance.
