Gibson Going After Guitar Hero $$$

On March 13th, 2008 in Uncategorized -

There’s no honor among thieves, and not much among businessmen it seems. Guitar maker Gibson has been partnering with Red Octane to bring officially licensed Gibson guitar controllers since the beginning of the franchise in 2005. Now Gibson is seeking damages for a infringements on a patent of theirs from 1999. The patent in question is for technology designed to simulate a concert experience by using instruments and a prerecorded concert along with the possibility of a 3-d headset. Activision is of course appealing this and hopes to get the patent invalidated. Reuters also reports that because Gibson has been working with the game’s creators for the last three years there can be an implied license granting them use of the technology outlined under the patent. Someone should tell the folks at Gibson about the man with the goose that laid golden eggs who strangled the poor fowl because she wasn’t laying fast enough for his liking.
