PS3 Gaining In-game XMB Functionality Later This Year
In a post made on the PlayStation Blog, SCEA marketing VP Peter Dille said that the long-awaited integration of PS3’s XMB interface would arrive later this year. It will allow for streamlined communication for users who are playing.
The company had previously announced that the forthcoming v2.4 firmware update for the console would improve in-game communication. Though the firmware is set for release this Summer, Dille did not specify a particular firmware update or release date for the in-game XMB functionality.
Dille, among other things, hinted at plans in the works for other community-related services coming to the PlayStation Network and PS3 later this year. “[The services] will be designed to allow more community development and collaborative gameplay as well as recognize and reward you for your gameplay accomplishments across a broad portfolio of PS3 games,” he wrote in the post.
