Sell Out With Snake
Konami has decided they won’t be making anywhere near enough money with Metal Gear Solid 4. The game is going to feature a level of marketing tie-ins to compete with almost anything ever seen. While it seems unlikely that listening to an iPod would lend itself well to stealth infiltrations, you’ll be able to change the background music to various music files you’ll collect in the game world or download from the web.
A variety of various real-world items will be featured in the game from Sony Ericsson cellphones to Triumph Motorcycles. One item will even be breaching the wall between fantasy and reality, an unusual bird alarm clock will be manufactured and sold in reality. The Ga Ko Alarm clock will be sold (only in Japan) for 2,800 yen at the end of July.
There’ll also be some more standard merchandise from novelizations to soundtracks and tshirts available. Again, everything will be limited to Japan at least for the moment, but you can be sure that some of this stuff will trickle down to other continents as well.
