On Gothic 4′s Name Change

Gamespot was the first to report on Gothic 4’s name change in North America, as well as its unique color palettes for each region. They now carry a preview on Arcania: A Gothic Tale, the redubbed game, which offers a look into the upcoming sequel. However, what is more interesting is the part where they explain the name change for the North American edition of the RPG series.
Apparently publisher DreamCatcher is trying to get away from the buggy mess that Gothic 3 was. In fact, the article quotes the publisher as admitted that it “was a great game in theory but an unplayable mess in execution.” That’s why they replaced the developer, as well as changed the name which serves two purposes.
The first is that it hints at a world that is rich in magic and fantasy. Secondly, it lets the Gothic franchise get a needed reboot in North America where it has not gained much popularity like other regions.
So, there you have it – the name change was done to appeal to the gamer.
